Meet The Swim Coaching Crew
Coach Kara does the dirty work for Swim Las Vegas. She is an ASCA Level 2 & U.S. Masters Level 3 coach who loves to instruct beginners and work with intermediate level swimmers to improve their conditioning and efficiency. She is also an American Red Cross Life Guard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor. Dedicated to teaching proper technique and welcoming swimmers who want to learn how to swim efficiently, Kara spends countless hours in the pool. She will also "tell you how it is" only a little nicer than Coach Paul.
Coach Kara is a distance swimmer who regularly competes in long swims in cold water, without a wetsuit. Hoover Dam (10+miles), Golden Gate to Bay Bridge (6.2 mile) Lake George (6k), she also enjoys alpine swims.
Kara and Paul are the Race Directors for Slam The Dam Open Water Swim at Lake Mead and the LV10K Open Water Swim. These annual event draws world class participants from across the country & the globe.. The LV10K Open Water Swim was the first National Open Water Championship to be swum in Lake Mead.

Coach Paul (aka The Barracuda!) is an accomplished kayaker who has competed in over 125 triathlon events and is an ASCA Level 3 coach. He is an innovative and supportive swim coach and instructor who is not afraid to tell you how it is. He’s been swimming and coaching for... a very long time. He has successfully coached age groupers in southern California, Boston Marathon qualifiers, Ironman athletes, beginners looking for their first fix & everyone in between.
Coach Paul is the "math" behind some of the most notable courses in Las Vegas, from the famed Silverman Triathlon (yes, you can thank him for all of those hills) to the Las Vegas Marathon, to Pumpkinman, Rage Tri, Running with the Devil, Running with an Angel (and many more) including some of your favorite 5k's. There are too many to list. He offers course measurement certifications via RACE MEASURE and is also a race director of Slam The Dam Open Water Swim and LV10K Open Water Swim.
