Swim Las Vegas Open Water Workout Details
SLV team workouts will resume on the ides of March for our 7th year!
Drop ins are welcome but it is recommended that you participate in all the sessions to become the open water swimmer you can be.
Safety, our number one concern:
Each swimmer will be grouped by ability and speed. Pair up with a fellow swimmer and use the buddy system: Watch for your partner during sets and rest periods. If a swimmer is in need of aid, stay with them until help arrives.
Workouts are kayak supported and run be experienced open water coaches.
Noticeably disruptive, impaired or ill swimmers will not be allowed to swim.
Groups start on time. Please arrive on time.
Kayaks will be equipped with rescue tubes, hydration (supplied by swimmers) a marine band radio and a whistle. 3 whistles means exit the water immediately and be accounted for.
Rescue tubes will be placed along the buoy lines if rest is needed. We suggest purchasing the SSD. The Swimmer Safety Device as a personal flotation aid.
Communicate with coaches or other swimmers if you leave practice early.
When a coach is talking, you are not. Listen for directions and ask questions.

FOR YOUR SAFETY:
IF YOU DECIDE TO SWIM WITH ANOTHER "TRAINING GROUP", PLEASE CHECK TO SEE THAT THE "COACH" IS QUALIFIED TO RUN OPEN WATER WORKOUTS AT LAKE MEAD. ASK IF THEY HAVE A PERMIT TO TRAIN AT THE LAKE AND ASK TO SEE IT. ARE THEY CERTIFIED IN WATER RESCUE?
IF THE TRAINING COMPANY ASKS YOU "DON'T TELL ANYONE YOU'RE SWIMMING WITH A GROUP" WHILE AT THE LAKE YOUR "COACH" IS BREAKING THE LAW! DO YOU WANT TO PAY SOMEONE WHO HAS NO INTEGRITY OR IS CUTTING CORNERS?
ALL COMMERCIAL PERMITS LIMIT WORKOUTS TO 10 PEOPLE ON LAND AND 20 PEOPLE ON THE WATER. IF YOU SEE MORE THAT THAT, IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO CALL A RANGER AT LAKE MEAD TO COMPLAIN.
We swim at Boulder Beach Special Events Beach in Lake Mead NRA.
There is a $10 fee to enter the park. Annual passes can be purchased at the gates.
Allow up to 60 minutes drive time.
Bring Cap, sunscreen, hydration/nutrition, suit and goggles.
PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME!
Please Abide By all Park Regulations
